The lightweight brake disc offers two key advantages over stock brake discs. The weight of the rotating mass of the rear wheel is significantly reduced, and thanks to the smaller contact area, controllability on the racetrack is improved.
When braking, the weight of a racing motorcycle presses very heavily on the front wheel, causing the rear wheel to become very light and often start to wobble. If you apply the rear brake with a stock brake disc, the rear wheel locks up immediately or the ABS kicks in, making controlled braking impossible. With this brake disc, it's easier to use the rear brake and better manage the entry into a turn.
For these two reasons--less weight and improved control--we recommend using the lighter brake rotors. The brake rotors are designed for track use and are not street-legal.
